Cochin, India Mar 2007

Recently it seems that alot of people have been traveling to India. It never really occur to me that I’ll be going there myself hehe. The meeting that I went to was held in Cochin, the south west coast of Inida. We arrived late at the Cochin Airport and couldn’t get to see much on our 45 mins ride to the Hotel. We stayed at the Le Meriden. Even though it’s a 5 star hotel, the room is basic and design is old. We were in the hotel most of the time during the first two days of the meeting. In between, I managed to squeeze in some time to go for the Ayurvedic massage in the hotel. I didn’t enjoy it at all but it’s really an experience! I felt like I’ve been soaked in tub FULL of oil after the massage !!!

On the last day of the meeting, with some of my colleagues, we hired a taxi to Fort Cochi. We got there as the sun was about to set and walked along the beach. It was beautiful and very laid back. It was interesting to watch the fishermen with the huge Chinese fishing nets. There were small fish shops set up and you can pick any of the fishes that were caught and have fresh barbaqued fish by the beach.

My colleague and I were supposed to return to sg the next day, but we were on waiting list so in the end we had one more day to see Cochin. We decided to go on a cruise in one of the house boats through the backwaters. The house boat is really make like a house, with 2 bedrooms and a small kitchen. We even had two cooks with us on the boat to serve us coconut drinks, lunch and musala tea and pancakes for tea! It was a really relaxing boat ride, we passed through the padi fields, and watched the local people going about their daily lives. We bought some big prawns from one the small fishing boats and had our cooks to cook them for us :)

It was about late afternoon when to return to the city. We did some shopping, thank God that we had a very good driver to bring us around, the traffic was terrible! Had a shower back at the hotel and we left for the airport. I was feeling quite sick of indian food already and was looking forward to going home :)

Next trip would be Cambodia, Siem Reap in two weeks time !

I was away for almost 2 weeks, went to Cochin, India for a meeting last Wednesday, came back on Sun morning and off I go again on Tuesday to KL for two days and Sarawak for another two days. Just came back about an hour ago, tired and missed my two little girls. I’m glad to be home again, hopefully i don’t have to travel so much next month. will try to blog about my trip to Cochin and put up some pics soon.

Australia ??

A quick blog before i go to bed. I had a really strange encounter today ! We went to Maxwell Market for lunch after church. A minute after I have sat down at one of the tables, the cleaning lady came and start clearing the dirty plates away, and while she was cleaning the table… the following conversation took place…

Cleaning Lady: Are you a Singaporean?

Me: Yes….? (in my mind- why are you asking??)

Cleaning Lady: Are you a Christian?

Me: Yes….

Cleaning Lady: If you have the chance to go to Australia, you must go there and stay.

Me: err..huh…ok… ( in my mind -I was like what !?! can you say that again?! is God speaking to me??!!)

Cleaning Lady: I have a dream a few years ago, God showed me about Australia…Australia is a a good place to stay… blah blah..

Me: If you have the opportunity will you go to Australia to stay?

Cleaning Lady: Yes I will

Me: How will you be able to migrate there?

Cleaning Lady: My son.. i will follow him..Which church are you from?

Me: CNL- under AOG. Which church are you from?

Cleaning Lady: Victory Family Centre

I was really surprised that she is from VFC !!! then..blah… blah.. after she has finished cleaning the table.. i say thanks and she walked away.

I was totally surprised and can’t really get over what she has told me about Australia out of the blue !!!

man, does this kind of thing happen very often, if it doesn’t, is it a coincidence, can it be such a coincidence ?? And the very weird thing is I have been telling desmond a few times over the past 1-2 months that I don’t want to move to aus.

I used to want to stay in aus very much, but that was after i had just finished my studies in perth in 1998. now after 8 years and with two kids, i don’t really want to move anymore.

But Desmond still wants to move back there one day, so i’ve prayed about this before, whether to move or to stay in singapore and I wanted a very clear answer, i don’t want to move just because the air is cleaner, or the life there is better blah blah… i want to move only if God wants me to move there. So since God has not really spoken or put a strong desire in me to move, i’ve decided myself that i don’t want to move because starting all over again in a new place, building life and friendships can be hard especially with kids.

But now… after today… mm.. i can’t explain…

Becky’s 2nd Birthday

We celebrated Rebecca’s 2nd Birthday recently. I didn’t really plan for anything, so it was really the last minute that we decide on what to do for her birthday. The initial plan was to have it at west coast park because she loves the playground and then have the birthday cake at Mac. But it was raining heavily that day so we decided to go to Changi Beach Club cafe instead- the dad’s suggestion as he wanted to take a look at the renovation which was done by his company. We are glad that Nick and Pearl and their 2 girls managed to join us – otherwise it would just be us :)

Do you feel connected?

sigh..at the moment I don’t…is it because i’m too busy with my own stuff? no… i wonder how long i’ll be able to last like this…

I spent the sat afternoon doing this for my boss who will be going over to Shanghai for the next 2-3 years. She’ll be leaving behind Buddy in the care of a friend, and i hope this keepsake will bring her memories of the good times she has spent with him while she is away. thanks to the experts, Anne and Brenda for helping !
